Parrot through nether portal bug

Recently while playing Minecraft on my Nintendo Switch, i discovered a bug that ended up deleting my inventory and other stuff. 
While in a jungle biome, i attempted to bring some tamed parrots back with me through a nether portal, after having them sit and manually get pushed into the portal, and me following them, the game crashes.
When i reloreloaded the game, i spawned a few blocks away from my portal with my parrots besides me, but my inventory was cleared. Other times, i would just be teleported  a few blocks away, but not able to enter the portal at all without crashing the game
