Xbox live sign in makes Minecraft pe exit after update to newest version

just updated Minecraft PE to newest version on iPad (fully updated). Following the MC PE update, the app stalls at start up trying to log in to xbox live - and then exits immediately. Opening the app off line gives me more time before the app shuts down, but at the end it stalls and shuts down
