Cocoa bean automatic farming impossible

i tried to make a cocoa bean farm with pistons but the pistons made the cocoa beans disappear. I tried water but the water dosn't break the cocoa beans. Instead, the water passed through the cocoa beans. Please fix this because I want to make automatic cocoa farms.
