Randomly take suffocation damage when leaving the nether

when exiting the nether I take suffocation damage ~ 8 times out of 10, seems to be related to how long the transition takes, when connected remotely via mobile phone and connection is not so strong I take a lot more suffocation damage when affected by lag during loading of destination.
