Game crashes frequently, constantly lose items

I bought Minecraft on the Switch eshop a few days ago; the game crashes/freezes VERY frequently, especially when I go and click "Save and Quit", ESPECIALLY after using chests to store or take out items.  I also frequently lose items completely, items that were present in multiple previous saves.  I had a full chest of items, tried to move it, the game crashed, and I lost half the items in the chest, which was hours of progress gone.  Not very happy about it, kind of ruins the experience to be honest.  Is there any way I can fix this?
