Can't type in letters in chat and signs.

I was going to try the chat feature in the new update. I tried to type a letter but nothing appeared. I could only type in numbers and symbols. Then I tried to do it in Creative Mode but the same thing happened. I tried it on signs on both game modes and I got the same result. The same thing happened when I tried to change my username ingame and tried to enter my world mame and seed.
