Sound effects travel too far

When I placed a mine-cart down and put it in a loop, I could still hear the sound from around 60 blocks away! I think that it's pretty ridiculous. I think sounds should only travel around 15-25 blocks. I can hear it all through my base. Same deal with nether portals as well. 😡
