Siri Voice Recognition For Messages Gets Only Last Character

On an iPhone 4S, when using Siri to speak text for a message, text for a given message only captures the last character. For example, when one hits the microphone button and speak the words, "I have a cat" only the letter "t" appears in the message text box.
