Achievements not showing up

I tried to earn some achievements but they are not popping up. I followed the exact requirements. For example, The "im a marine biologist" achievment would not show. Even when i caught a fish using a bucket. Im playing on a survival world. Havnt changed it to creative mode or used cheats.
