Crossbow shooting breaks blocks

When I try to shoot with a loaded crossbow while in creative , I break the block where my thumb is on on the screen. It will shoot, but I also end up with a broken block. I can avoid this by shooting with my thumb on the upper part of my screen.

Please fix this.
