Crossbow won't work with potion effect arrows

I was firing "Slow Falling" potion effect arrows at mobs using the "Crossbow" when I noticed it didn't work, I experimented with "Invisiblity" potion effect arrows, I soon discovered that no potion effect arrows would work with the crossbow, even after placing said arrows in my left hand
