Top half of stair blocks turn dark when breaking

I was making a doghouse for my wolves in survival when I was placing stairs I placed one incorrectly. I broke the stair block and during that it changed a different texture, the middle part was a mix of acacia wood and dark oak wood stairs.

I couldn't get a picture because the glitch only happened when I broke stairs.
