Crash during open chest corrupts world

In a single player world created before the 1.6 update the game crashed while I had a chest open to transfer items. After this crash the world cannot be loaded, the game crashes during the load screen. 

Created a new world. Played for 10-15 hrs before, when at a chest exchanging items, the game crashed with the same result. This new world can no longer be loaded, the game crashes from the load screen.
