Game acts weirdly if the player dies while charging a trident

I was flying in the air with a trident that had riptide 3.

Then came across a snowstorm and I just fell.

I was trying to charge it while falling and I died. When I respawned the world turned black and froze. The only way I could escape this situation was by exiting to the main menu.
