Unable to Connect Windows 10 client to JAVA Server

Cannot connect the windows 10 client to a JAVA client, even though both are the same version of game. I am able to connect to my server through my router with a Java version of the game but not not with the Windows 10 1.5.2.1 version of the client. neither on My own computer nor my mom's. I live in Missouri, she lives in Colorado.
