Water on slab creates extra water source

Place water on a slab with 4 surrounding blocks like shown. Break one of the blocks, allowing water to flow underneath the slab. This creates a new source block under the slab. If you place a block on the new source block, then destroy it, the source block does not reappear (unless you do this again).
