Kindle Can't Connect To Switch World

My son and I were playing together. He on a switch me on kindle fire.

While in the middle of playing i was kicked out of the game and an auto update occured. We then updated his switch so both devices are on version 1.5. Now I cannot connect to his switch.

His switch is in my kindles server list and is the correct IP address.

We have tried:

power cycling both devices

logging in and out of xbox account

deleting and re adding his switch to the server list on the kindle

sending invites and friend requests back and forth.

 

This seems like a bug, because what was working correctly stopped working before our eyes after the update.
