We should be able to hover over a block in the inventory and press a number 1-9 to move the item to the corresponding hotbar location

This was recently removed. I believe it was remvoved in 1.4 or 1.3. I am aware this is not exactly a bug but this has to do with feature parity which belongs here according to Minecraft Uservoice .
