Map player marker missing

I crafted a map in my survival world, and am unable to see my location or banner on it. I am however able to see my location on the map i started the world with. I upgraded the crafted map three times over and the issue kept, but i was still able to update the map as i used it, even if i didn't have a clear indication of where on the map I was.
