If you change the difficulty from Easy, Normal, or Hard to Peaceful, Ghasts still spawn in the nether (realms)

So in realms today I switched the difficulty from hard to peaceful because I wanted to fix lag. I went in the nether to travel back to my base and I heard ghasts, so that tells me that they did not die whenever I switched difficulties.
