Unable to take items out of furnaces

I am unable to take items out of a furnace, and I cannot put items such as coal or wood into the bottom of the furnace.

What I expected to happen was that I would be able to take items out of a furnace, and put a burning item on the bottom slot.

*What actually happened was I could not do either.

1. Create a furnace
2. Place a furnace
3. Put item in furnace
4. Not able to put coal or wood in the bottom slot as well as take other item out of the top slot.
