Torches Jumping off Fences

If I try to place a torch on a fencepost, but there is a block above and next to the fencepost, the torch will jump off on to the block adjacent to it. Similarly, if I have a fencepost with a torch on it and place a block next to the torch, it will jump off the fence on to the block.
