Dolphins suffocate in blocks located underwater

While swimming around in a coral grove, a dolphin swam into a coral wedge and began suffocating. It was underwater and there was no coral above it when the incident occured. I believe it is possible for the dolphins to suffocate in other blocks, but I coild not recreate the incident.
