Not connecting to servers but can connect to realms mcpe galaxy j7

My phone can't connect to any external servers, it can connect to realms and Xbox live fine, but when I try to connect to mineplex or any other server it won't let me. Says "connecting to external server" and stays there till it crashes or I stop it.
I'm on the galaxy j7, any tips?
