Villagers in Boats can not pick up food

Villagers are unable to pick up food while in boats.
You can not give them food.
Free villagers will still throw them food but they won't pick that up either.
(Inventory : for search results. I thought they couldn't access inventory but you can trade with them, so saying they can't pick up food is more clear.)
