Won't let me join servers

So, i haven't been able to play servers since last year because it won't let me join, i deleted Minecraft then downloaded again and it still happens. I can't even go to shop because it says my connection is off but my connection is fine. Its keeps saying ''Connecting to external sever'' but it stays on that screen until i press cancel. Also, the featured severs list doesn't come up but everyone else has it. So please help so i can play online.
