Backspace key not working in Realms chat and creating signs

The backspace key frequently just stops working when in chat and when creating signs. The only way to fix this is to completely exit the game and restart it. The MAJOR problem with this is it is happening with greater frequency, to the point that I have to restart two or three times in one gaming session.
