Touch control pad disappeared on iPad

On my iPad version of Minecraft PE, the touch control pad to move around jump crouch etc has gone from the bottom of my screen. Including my hot bar so I can not switch between items on the game. The chat and pause button is not there anymore either and all this is preventing me from playing Minecraft. Been like this for several weeks.
Please help. Thank you
