When i kill cows and baby cows with lava from burning it doesn't give me cooked steak or anything.

I have a redstone creation that once burned cows and has hoppers at the bottom and it doesn't give me any steak at all. I was wondering if this is a bug or if its just a change. This doesn't seem right.
