Lt button icon wont appear when holding a piece of food

(This is in the newer version of minecraft) Im down to 3 hungry icons where i can no longer run. The Lt button which will allow me to eat is not showing even though i have a piece of food in my hand. Whats wierd is that i have another world where i have no issues with the Lt button and hungry bar and im able to eat food in my hand .
