Xbox Minecraft (Insider) doesn't update to same version as Minecraft Windows 10 (Insider) and cannot join each other's games

My friend cannot update his minecraft through the Xbox Insider app as I did and therefore when I try and join his server, like I typically could, it doesn't let me and just states that the server client is outdated... I am on version 1.2.5 and he is on 1.2.3 and his game does not want to update...
