Cannot exit sign edit mode

Placing a sign works fine, so does typing on the sign. The problem is exiting the sign edit mode. On older versions there was an X in the corner. It has now disappeared. The exit the mode you have to close and restart the app. Frustrating since I cannot place a sign easily since the update.
