Eye of Ender does not lead to Stronghold

I've been playing on a realm of a friends since before the bedrock version was unified. Finally was ready to find the stronghold and I go out and the closest one is in the ocean near where my house was. I go in, find it on the ocean floor with an eye of ender (triple confirmed including having it hover right over my head on the spot). I mine out the floor of this place all around down to the bedrock. We're talking 4 floors with at least 10-15 blocks in all direction and tunnels everywhere around that open area. Bedrock, to ocean floor, all the way up and a friend even built a tower up to the clouds. The stronghold is simply not there. I confirmed with an eye of ender inside the ocean floor and it locks onto the same place inside as well.
