Llama harms itself with spit attack

After hitting a llama and provoking it to spit at me, spit wads that hit me cause damage to me AND to the llama, even when I am several blocks away. If I manage to dodge a spit wad and thus avoid the damage, the llama also does NOT take damage after spitting.
