Game crashes to Home screen when trying to access inventory - iPad Mini 1

Every time I try to open the inventory, game will freeze and crash to the Home screen. While in game, very slow to respond. iPad Mini 1 with several GB free and hardly any other apps. All video settings were set to the lowest level and inventory still crashes the game. At this point, the game is unplayable.
