Disconected from server/ outdated server

I have an xbox one s and a windows 10 pc. I have downloaded the beta app on xbox and PC. I have a player logged on to my xbox and I am logged on to my pc - 2 separate accounts. I am getting "Disconnected from server". I have tried uninstall and reinstall both games - from xbox and pc. I have tried joining the xbox game or joining the PC game, both get the same result. The console and PC are on the same wired LAN network.
