Sometimes items won't return to chest from inventory using quick return

Sometimes I select an item to quick return to a chest but it won't return to the chest, but will remain in my inventory and I have to drag it to the chest instead.

Seemed to happen more frequently when you take out half a stack of items in a chest, then later go to return some/all of them using the quick return option.
