Unable to connect to world Xbox Live Beta .20/.22

Having trouble connecting to or having friends join worlds if they aren't LAN players. All people trying to join are on v ending .22 but the xbox beta is version .20 and I can't seem to update it to .22. I can join the realms but if I join a friends game on PE or Win10 it just says 'Unable to connect to world'

I just need acknowledgement of what would cause this and a link if there a trouble shooting guide anywhere for me to follow to find out how to fix this.
