Unable to craft sticks, crafting tables or chests using Dark Oak Wood Planks and other wood types

I was in a let's play world that i had just started, and went to craft some sticks with the available planks that i had, being dark oak, and saw that the crafting recipe did not work. I then tried it with the crafting table recipe, also to no avail. I also tried with spruce wood, which did not work, and i haven't tried with any other wood types
