Block missing on place

Situation:
chest is pre-placed against stone. crafting table is placed next to chest against same stone wall (second stone block) I am unsure if the stone wall / hill has anything to do with the issue.

The bug:
After placing crafting table, the table did not appear. The item was withdrawn from inventory. Upon clicking on the other-wise empty space, the crafting UI appeared. Closing the UI revealed the block, as placed.

Though this is slightly annoying as it is alarming/disconcerting that the item was placed but in appearances, gone.

EDIT:
I have been unable to re-create this with newer versions. I do not know if this has been resolved however.
