I can not get passed the Welcome Screen

I have a Kindle Fire. It is an older version but still works perfectly. It is run by Amazon. (I did not see this listed in any of the options.) When I click on Minecraft, the screen stays dark for a while, and then the welcome screen will eventually load. I am able to click on the settings and change things, as well as my avatar. However, as soon as I click "play" to access my worlds, the screen flickers and I am booted off of the app. There have been several bug fixes that have been released, however none of them have helped me.
