After the first few days, I can't collect gunpowder when I kill a creeper

On the second day I played minecraft, I killed a creeper that came into my house and two gunpowder were dropped. When I went to collect it, I couldn't. I had this issue the last time I played minecraft but even when I redownloaded it, I still at the same problem.
