I don't have blocks in my inventory in creative. everything is blank.

I started playing a new Minecraft world in creative mode. When I went to get different blocks than what was in my hot bar, there was nothing. I couldn't even search for blocks. Please help me figure out this bug, for I can't play in creative mode without the right blocks.
