Gear VR: sugar cane not disappearing after destroying bottom block

When destroying the bottom block of sugar cane, the rest of the sugar cane other than the bottom block sometimes remains until I plant more or break the next one. The remaining 'levitating' sugar cane cannot be destroyed i.e. it is not really there
