Torch Bugs

Torch bugs(This is a Duplicate but I believe this is explained much more fluently.)

I placed a torch in a 1x1 hole that is 1 block deep. I expecteted it to go on the bottom of the hole.
Describe what you expected would happen

It attached to the walls. The torch is picky on which block it will go on.(i.e. East, West, North, South)
Describe what happened here

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Place a torch ON the last block before the invisible bedrock that surrounds the world. You expect it to go on the block, but it will go on the invisible bedrock.
2. Dig a 1x1 hole that is 1 block deep. Put it ON the block at the bottom.
