Going into the nether and back out despawns all passive mobs in the area

In realms, when I (when single player) or all playing people go through to the nether, all passive mobs seem to despawn in the area.

I had a farm for pigs, sheep, cows and chickens but after visitng the nether, they are all gone.

They are all fenced off and in a fully lit area.
