Chest/furnace cause hot at items to randomize and other items to disappear

When I access then exit furnaces or chests, items in my hot bar are randomized and sometimes duplicated (I've seen this issue posted but no resolution / solution) but mine is also deleting items. I have lost multiple heavily enchanted items and other valuable items. I could play with the randomized hot bar but the game is unplayable now that I'm burning through items faster than they can be crafted. A HUGE burn of experience
