Wood slabs need to be mined with pick

I expected to be able to break a wooden half slab with an axe. It was as slow as breaking it with fists.after some experimenting I found that it only broke fast with a pickaxe. To re-create:
Place a wood half slab in survival
Break it with a axe
Place it down again
Break it with a pick
