In-hand item disappears when using fireplace.

Non-burnable items in-hand dissapear when adding items to a working furnace. For example, I've lost several iron swords and oak gates if I am holding them when I add cobblestone to a fireplace that is currently smelting cobblestone. If I am holding a stick, I don't lose that.
