Game Crashes after adding a Texture Pack and then Food Bar and Health Bar is Missing

Upon adding a texture pack to a new game the game shows the loading screen and then crashes before it is fully loaded. I am able to relaunch Minecraft and load the game with the texture pack active however there is no food bar and no hunger bar. I know that it is not the texture pack as I have tried multiple texture packs and all that I have tried so far are having the same problem. The texture packs have all been updated within the past few days so they are not outdated.
